Dragon Fire is part of a series of still life paintings featuring tropical and unusual fruit. Inspired by the ornate, interesting shapes and vivid colors, I arrange my set-ups in natural light to take advantage of the glow-through and dramatic shadows from backlighting. The drawing is composed to incorporate the surrounding border as part of the image and break the subjects and shadows out into it. The best part is setting it up, painting it, eating it, then writing it off as art supplies! Just kidding, IRS...
